2024 was the worst ever year for Bumblebees !

Bumblebee Nests

Bumblebee's are in just as much trouble as Honey Bees and pretty much do exactly the same job.

Their numbers are in decline, their habitat disappearing and suitable nesting sites also more difficult to find.

Bumblebee's generally nest under decking, patio's and the likes, freshly dug over gardens are a favourite or just under the top layer of lawn. In these circumstances Manchester Bee Works will not remove the nest as this will almost certainly result in the destruction of the nest, any the possible death of many bumbles. If this happens too late in the season the queen may also not have time to raise next years laying queen, and then no bees from this nest for next year.

BUMBLEBEES IN A BIRD BOX.

On occasions Bumblebees will set up nest in a bird box or similar in your garden, this can cause issues around the home especially with young children and pets (especially dogs)

With nests contained with in this type of box it can be moved complete with Bumbles and taken to a safe location where they can do their important work without bothering anyone.

Block the entrance to the box tightly with fabric after dusk has passed, be careful of secondary entrances. the following morning reposition the box (cover up well). when in place gentle remove fabric. Beware the bees will exit quickly. Walk away quickly but calmly

Bumblebees are best left alone. They're valuable pollinators, some are endangered. Don’t try to block entrance holes in walls etc as they will try to find another way out possibly into the property.

They will die out naturally in late summer/autumn, and therefore the cost of a pest control service is easily avoided.
